Christian Eriksen scored twice as Spurs eased past Swansea into the semi finals of the FA Cup, last Saturday. The 26-year-old Tottenham star ran the midfield in Wales as he guided his side into the next round of the competition.

The Danish playmaker has proven himself to be an increasingly indispensable member of the Tottenham attack in recent years. Constantly creating opportunities for his teammates, picking out passes no one else would even see – let alone attempt – while also bagging himself a fair share of goals; the Danish international has developed into one of the best players in the Premier League.

Here are some of Eriksen’s attributes that have made him an essential player for the North London side:

1. Passing Ability

Eriksen has an impressive pass success rate of 82.2% this season.

He is vital in the middle of the field for Tottenham as he connects the team together. He goes deep to collect the ball, brings it through the middle and sends it forward. He has the ability to instantly turn defence into a attack.

And they’re not just easy, short passes in the middle of the park. The dynamic midfielder consistently attempts long incisive passes, floating balls over the defence and sliding the penalty box, making his success rate all the more extraordinary.

2. Chances Created

The Danish midfielder is hugely influential when it comes to goals. In fact, last season he created the third highest amount of chances and tallied the third highest number of assists across Europe’s top five leagues.

Eriksen was involved in over a quarter of Tottenham’s club record high of 86 goals last season, while he also finished as the top creator in the Premier League with 112 chances.

The 26-year-old currently has seven goals and eight assists to his name in the league this term, which again means he has been involved in over a quarter of Spurs’ current goal tally.

His eight assists this term is the joint fourth highest in the Premier league. While he sits third in the list of most successful through balls, and fourth in crosses.

Eriksen has also already hit double figures with his goal tally in all competitions for Spurs this term, now having achieved that feat in four out of the five seasons he has been in North London.

3. Fitness

Eriksen’s fitness is another key factor to his and Spurs’ performances. The North London side are known for their fitness – largely due to Pochettino’s tough training sessions – and they cannot be matched when it comes to energy and effort over 90 minutes. When someone with the ability of Eriksen has this sort of work ethic, it is sure to cause problems for opposing players.

The Denmark international’s fitness is seemingly second to none, as he moves around the pitch from the first whistle to the last. Eriksen ran the equivalent of ten marathons in the Premier League last season, as he covered the second highest amount of ground, with 431km.

He is surely up there again this season, as he consistently tracks back to help in defence while always providing a threat in attack.

4. Consistency

The main reason Eriksen has become so vital to Tottenham’s success is his consistency. In recent years, he has seemingly been hugely influence in nearly every single game he has played.

He is the glue that holds the team together. He may not always be noticed or hitting the headlines, but he is always working hard, creating chances, delivering the ball from the defence to the attack.

The midfielder is not only consistent in performance, he is also constantly featuring in the starting XI. Eriksen has barely missed a Premier League game since 2014, hitting over 35 appearances in each of the last three seasons, and has missed only one game this term. His ability to stay fit will have played a big part in his consistently good form.
